San Diego Program Overview

 Shield of Freedom (SOF) is proud to serve the San Diego community through a wide range of humanitarian, educational, and cultural initiatives that support Ukrainian war refugees, veterans, and public awareness. We assist newly arrived Ukrainian refugees with cultural assimilation and practical support, including transportation, access to local resources, and donation of vehicles to help them gain independence. For Ukrainian veterans and civilians receiving prosthetic treatment in San Diego, SOF offers meaningful personal support—organizing welcome dinners, city tours, and transportation to appointments and activities that promote connection and healing. In addition to direct aid, SOF engages the broader San Diego community through ongoing advocacy and awareness efforts. 

These include:

• Documentary film screenings and virtual reality experiences of war zones in Ukraine
• Public speaking engagements and school presentations
• Collaborations with local organizations to host expert panels and cultural events
• Memorial ceremonies honoring San Diego volunteers who lost their lives defending Ukraine

Our work connects San Diegans to the global struggle for freedom while reinforcing the region’s identity as a compassionate, informed, and engaged community. Through every effort, SOF builds bridges—between nations, between neighbors, and between those who serve and those who support them. 

Shield of Freedom’s Vehicle Donation Program helps newly arrived Ukrainian refugee families in San Diego regain independence and stability by providing access to reliable transportation. Many refugees arrive with limited resources and face immediate challenges getting to work, school, medical appointments, or essential services. By connecting donated vehicles with vetted families, we remove a major barrier to resettlement and self-sufficiency. We handle DMV paperwork and offer support with insurance and registration to ensure each family can start driving safely and confidently. Donating a vehicle isn’t just a generous act—it’s a life-changing gift of freedom and opportunity. These vehicle gifts are tax deductible.
